In early September, the Gnostics celebrate the Descent of Sophia, which also corresponds to the traditional date for the Birth of Mary, the Mother of Jesus, in the Church Calendar. In both of these traditions, this is the time to celebrate the coming to earth of the feminine aspect of divinity. The story of the descent of Sophia is the story of the creation of the material world and of our own fall into matter. The birth of Mary describes the role of the Divine Feminine in our own redemption and liberation.
At a private estate in Tiburon, we will examine the myth of the Holy Sophia and her descent into matter as a metaphor for the journey of our own soul’s awakening. This exploration will include movement, voice, dance and improvisation using the feminine voice of the Gnostic scripture,

 Elizabeth Kelley is an independent researcher, writer, photographer and a passionate student of history, comparative religions and the divine feminine. She was ordained a Priestess in the Holy Order of Mary Magdalene in 1995 and has been offering presentations on the Magdalene since 1990. To understand the depth of Magdalene’s legacy, Elizabeth traveled extensively throughout France, Egypt and the Holy Land. Her greatest passion and dedication is the re-emergence of the Sacred Feminine primarily through the history, stories and legends of Mary of Magdala, Isis, Sophia and the Black Madonna.
Elizabeth is also a dedicated dancer and producer of dance events. In 1980 she formed her own production company producing over one hundred music and dance events in Marin County. She also participated in Gabrielle Roth’s and Joy Berta’s teacher training programs. In 1990 she became a dedicated member of Ballet Afsaneh, performing authentic and sacred dances from Persia and remote regions of the Silk Road. Elizabeth has also been a soloist with the Phoenix Spring Ensemble, performed in numerous plays, taught atees Harbin Hot Springs and created dance rituals for the Gnostic Church of Mary Magdalene.
